Involight DLS2000D vs. STRATUS PRO – Laser or Haze?
We have two devices in our warehouse that were born for completely different tasks, yet they often get mentioned in the same breath: the Involight DLS2000D RGB laser projector and the STRATUS PRO hazer. The former draws the light, the latter makes it visible. But when do you need which one? And if you bring both, what’s the optimal deployment ratio? Let’s look at the concrete numbers, parameters, and what each device excels at.
Involight DLS2000D – compact laser, serious beams
The Involight DLS2000D is an RGB laser projector that works with 2000 watts of light output. This isn’t power consumption – that’s only 22W – but the intensity of the emitted light beams. Its compact size (290×250×127 mm) and 1.85 kg weight mean you can pack it anywhere, whether on truss, stand, or shelf.
Control is flexible: 13 or 16 DMX channels are available, but if you don’t have a console, it also runs in automatic or sound-activated mode. With three-pin XLR in and out, it’s chainable, and you can adjust parameters on-site from the LED display. The IEC power supply operates at 110–240V, making it deployable worldwide. ABS housing, black finish – typical effect light design, but thanks to the laser optics you get much sharper, more precise beams than from a simple PAR.
STRATUS PRO – hazer that paints the air
The STRATUS PRO, however, is not a light source. It makes light beams visible: with 906 m³/min haze output, it fills the space with fine fog in which the laser (or any other light source) truly comes to life. The heater-less construction means faster warm-up (ready in 1 minute) and more consistent haze density.
With 2-channel DMX control, haze volume and fan speed can be adjusted separately – so you get exactly as much haze as the production demands. From the 2-liter tank, it operates at 7 ml/min fluid consumption at maximum output. Additional features: electronic temperature control (ETS), low fluid level sensing, self-cleaning function. 3-pin and 5-pin XLR in parallel, LCD display, optional ICR-1 remote control support.
Dimensions: 354×327×332 mm, weight: 8.45 kg. Metal housing, black finish, 1350W power consumption – it requires more substantial infrastructure than the laser, but in return it creates atmosphere.
When to choose which?
If you want spectacular beams projected onto walls, ceiling, or audience – and there’s no haze – the Involight DLS2000D works on its own. In smaller rooms where smoke quickly dissipates or isn’t allowed, the laser is clearly visible, especially in darkness.
But if you want real depth and spatial effect, the STRATUS PRO is essential. The fine haze produced by the hazer evenly fills the space, and the DLS2000D beams come alive in it – every ray is visible, every geometric pattern is clear. This is when the laser doesn’t just project, but truly draws in the air.
At their best together – but how?
The combination of the two is a classic stage pairing. In a 50-80 person venue it’s already worth deploying both: the STRATUS PRO starts producing haze about 10-15 minutes before the show, and you set the fan speed so that an even, fine layer hovers in the space – not a gas cloud, but a soft background.
Then comes the DLS2000D: you control the patterns, colors, and movement via DMX. The 13 or 16 channels are enough to achieve dynamic effects, and thanks to the 22W consumption, you can even chain multiple units without tripping the breaker. The STRATUS PRO meanwhile gently replenishes, maintains the atmosphere – and you can enjoy watching the laser beams swim crystal-clear through the air.
Final word – no clear winner, but there is teamwork
The Involight DLS2000D and the STRATUS PRO are champions of two different categories. The former is a compact, energy-efficient, direct-impact laser projector. The latter is a stable, heater-less hazer that makes light visible. They work separately, but together they deliver the kind of production worth capturing in a brutalist webshop magazine. If you only bring one: the DLS2000D is more direct, the STRATUS PRO more atmospheric. If you bring both: this is the real ShowD.
